What is the difference between Hemp Oil and CBD Oil?

Discover the difference between CBD oil and hemp oil – The two are interchangeable phrases used by people to refer to extracts from Cannabis sativa or industrial hemp. However, there is a significant difference between these two oils. One of the essential differences is that hemp oil is essentially hemp seed oil extracted from the seeds, whereas CBD oil is removed from the plant body, including the leaves, stems, stalk, and buds.

However, this is not the only difference between these two types of extracts. Read on to know more about CBD oil and hemp oil, properties, including their similarities and differences.

 What is hemp seed oil?

Hemp seed oil is a highly nutritional fatty oil extracted from hemp seeds and contains an almost negligible quantity of cannabinoids which are usually found in the plant flesh. Hemp seed oil is a rich source of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, Vitamin E, and other essential minerals. It is usually available in the form of oil, capsules, tablets, and sprays and is used as a nutritional supplement.

 What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is extracted from the green flesh of the hemp plant. Different extraction procedures are used to source CBD oil formulated into sprays, capsules, drops, edibles, and topical. Unlike hemp seed oil, CBD is considered to be a therapeutic compound because of its remarkable medicinal properties. There are different types of CBD oil, such as full-spectrum broad-spectrum or CBD isolate. Each of these may be different, but they are all about cannabinoids found in Cannabis.

Full-spectrum CBD oil: Contains whole plant extract including all essential cannabinoids such as CBD and THC, CBG, CBN, CBC, and phytonutrients like terpenes and flavonoids.

Broad-spectrum CBD oil: Contains whole plant extract including all essential cannabinoids such as CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC, and phytonutrients like terpenes and flavonoids. It does not contain THC.
CBD isolate: It contains 99% CBD only.

Sources of hemp seed oil and CBD oil

Both hemp seed oil and CBD come from the Cannabis plant family. To ensure these products are legal, they should be extracted from industrial hemp, which contains less than 0.3 % tetrahydrocannabinol. Hemp seeds do not have any cannabinoids, including THC, so they can be sourced from any organic hemp which is grown in controlled conditions.
On the other hand, CVD should be obtained from CBD-rich strains of industrial hemp or Cannabis sativa, which is also significantly lower in THC content.

CBD does not directly bind to the receptors but boosts their performance indirectly. CBD can help with:
  • Anxiety

  • Ptsd
  • Opioid addiction

Topical CBD skincare products also help with severe skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, etc.
